Vietnam Field Station

Introduction of Field Station

The Vietnam field station was established in October, 2009, at the Southern Institute of Sustainable Development (SISD) in Ho Chi Minh City, South Vietnam. While there are many foreign researchers in Vietnam based at universities and research institutes in North Vietnam, this center was established in the south, and an inter-departmental exchange agreement signed, in order to develop research on southern Vietnam. Research at the center will focus on a number of topics: racial mixing in the south and center of the country, where there is greater pluralism and diversity than in the north; this region’s religious diversity, which is not found in the north; Vietnamese movies of the south, where the movie industry is prospering; and themes such as occupations and environment in the south of the country.
